Ever evolving toughness:
Metal-clad shock-resistant structure

Fine-resin buffering components are installed between the forged bezel case and center case, and a three-pronged structure for the connective part of the band is employed to disperse shocks to the connecting pipes. The metal exterior meets G-SHOCK shock-resistance standards, achieving both strength and beauty.

Octagonal form

The bezel adopts the octagonal design motif the G-SHOCK has featured since the very first watch. Undergoing painstaking processes of forging, cutting and polishing, the bezel is precisely crafted — from its intricately shaped face to the form of its back, which is the key to the precision fit it makes with the inner case. A round hairline finish is applied to the top surface and a mirror polish to the sides, giving the bezel a beautiful gleam.

Minimalist beauty of form:
Wafer-thin design

For the inner case, metal is replaced with glass fiber-reinforced resin to provide strength, lightness, and processability. This more flexible design and installation structure provides more freedom in the use of multi-function modules and in exterior designs. As a foundation, this structure supports further G-SHOCK evolution, allowing more advanced lighting, radio control, solar power, Bluetooth® capability, heart rate monitoring and more.

The uneven design of the case and bezel surface guards the buttons and watch glass from direct shocks. In addition, the band connects to the case in a curved shape to prevent direct impact to the case back, as well.

Casual flair:
Textured band

The watch's urethane band employs a minutely detailed square dot texture. Sophisticated molding technology was used to achieve textural intricacy with incremental variations in dot size. A slide lever makes it easy to attach and remove the band.

The New Style G-SHOCK

The module is designed to “float” inside the hollow case, supported at specific points to reduce overall contact between the case and the module and buffer the impact of external shocks. The material used is a urethane resin that combines flexibility as a shock-absorbing material with strength and lightness as an exterior material.

Hollow case structure

1983: DW-5000

The very first G-SHOCK — the DW-5000 — debuted in 1983. Its timeless design, perfected right from the beginning, was born of a pursuit of the ultimate toughness eschewing all hints of the extraneous.

1989: AW-500

A design concept soon inherited by the first analog G-SHOCK model — the AW-500 — released in 1989. This concept was realized with a rock-solid design that looked almost like it was carved out of a single block of resin, removing everything non-essential.

It took revolutionary new technologies — from the thin module to the Carbon Core Guard structure — to achieve this. Paris, Hamburg, New York and Shanghai... impressions gathered from points all around the globe informed the design work. Countless sketches were made, and designs drawn and reviewed in a process of painstaking trial and error. At last a new watch was born, featuring a minimalist design with an octagonal bezel.
